As we look at this year’s past trends…let’s review how these directly influence many aspects of our lives. In particular, home remodeling and renovation color choices.
Fashion trends directly affect paint and decor trends. Paint, like the clothing we wear, goes through color trends. This year colors were bright, in-your-face colors complemented by bold patterns.
We saw this on the runway.
Trending: Bright Paint Colors
Similarly, bright colors of paint and ethnically influenced fabrics and patterns now trend in homes across the country.
Red: Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year, Caliente AF-290, is strong, radiant and full of energy. Red enlivens, bringing depth and energy to a space.
Yellow: Sunny rooms are also trending again. If it’s too bold for your walls, it’s incorporated into furniture, instead.
Ultra Violet: Pantone’s 2018 color of the year is bold and beautiful. The company describes its pick as a “dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade.”
Ocean Blue: This jewel-toned blue is the color of wanderlust right in your own home, giving a sense of adventure and exploration.

Eastern Indian Styles with Paisley
Ethnic prints paired with beloved historic patterns in bright colors are one of the new mix and match ideas that follow current fashion trends.
The New Florals
“I’m seeing more and more florals inspired by historic botanical books, especially in cotton prints and wallpapers,” says interior designer, Charlene Ackley of Charlene Ackley Interior Design.
Houndstooth
Originally used for woven wool cloth in the Scottish-lowlands, this menswear classic is making its way into home furnishings.
